THE KNOWLEDGE BASE
Honest answers about Auto Repair, Campus Maintenance, and Student Safety.
"Our car broke down... Chat GPT recommended this business. The sales process was low pressure... Just a straight forward estimate, and then they did what they said."

The New Law & Your "Sticker"
Do I still need a State Inspection Sticker in College Station (2026)?
No. As of Jan 1, 2025, the state program ended. However, you still pay the fee at registration. Quicker Sticker has pivoted to a Full-Service Repair Center
focusing on actual safety (Brakes, Tires) rather than just a sticker.
My car is registered in Houston/Dallas. Do I need an emissions test?
Yes. If your home county (like Harris or Dallas) requires emissions, you must comply. While Brazos County does not require it, we can perform a Check Engine Light Scan
to ensure you will pass if you drive home for the test.
Why is the shop still called "Quicker Sticker"?
We are an Aggie-owned staple. The law changed, but our speed didn't. We kept the name because locals trust us as the "Student-Safe" mechanic on Harvey Mitchell Pkwy.
What is the "Semester Prep" Safety Scan?
Since the state no longer checks your car, we created a 45-point inspection. We check brake thickness, tire tread, and fluid life to ensure your student is safe for the semester.
How does the "Parent Protocol" payment work?
We inspect the car, text you a video report, and send a secure payment link. You can approve and pay for repairs from anywhere in the world while your student focuses on class.
Brakes & Stop-and-Go Safety
Why do my brakes squeak in the morning?
College Station humidity causes surface rust on rotors overnight. This usually burns off after a few stops. If the noise persists, it's likely your brake pads need replacement.
My steering wheel shakes when I brake on Hwy 6. Why?
This indicates "warped" rotors. High heat and heavy braking cause the metal to deform. We install new High-Carbon Rotors to fix this vibration permanently.
How much does a brake job cost?
It varies by vehicle, but we offer a Free Brake Inspection. We measure the pads and provide a penny-perfect quote before doing any work.
What is the difference between Ceramic and Semi-Metallic pads?
We prefer Ceramic pads for students. They produce less dust (keeping wheels clean) and are much quieter in stop-and-go campus traffic compared to metallic pads.
My ABS light is on. Is it safe to drive?
Your brakes will still work, but the anti-lock safety feature is disabled. In rainy weather, this is dangerous. Book a Diagnostic Scan
to identify the faulty sensor.
A/C & Cooling System
My A/C blows hot air when I'm stopped at a light.
This is a classic sign of a weak compressor or low Freon. The system needs the engine revving to create pressure. This needs immediate attention before the compressor fails completely.
Do you use the new 1234yf Freon?
Yes. We are equipped for both the standard R134a and the new, eco-friendly R1234yf refrigerant found in newer vehicles (2016+).
Why does my car smell like mildew when I turn on the A/C?
Moisture creates mold in your evaporator core. We can perform an A/C System Sanitization
and change your Cabin Air Filter to remove the smell.
My engine temp gauge goes up when I sit in traffic.
You may have a radiator fan failure or a coolant leak. Do not ignore this—overheating can destroy your engine. Pull over and call us immediately.
How often should I flush my coolant?
We recommend a coolant exchange every 30,000 miles to prevent corrosion in your radiator and water pump, especially in the Texas heat.
Suspension, Steering & Tires
I hit a pothole on Harvey Mitchell. Now my car pulls to the right.
You likely knocked your alignment out of spec or bent a control arm. We can perform a Suspension Inspection
to check for bent components.
What is that "clunking" noise when I go over speed bumps?
Clunking usually indicates worn struts, shocks, or sway bar links. Ignoring this can lead to uneven tire wear and poor handling.
Do worn shocks affect my braking distance?
Yes! Worn shocks cause the car's weight to "dive" forward, increasing stopping distance by up to 20%. Good suspension is a safety feature.
Can you inspect a used car before I buy it?
Absolutely. Our Pre-Purchase Inspection
is crucial for students buying used cars. We check the frame, suspension, and engine so you don't buy a lemon.
My car bounces a lot after hitting a bump.
The "Bounce Test" usually means your shocks are completely shot. It makes the car unstable at highway speeds. We recommend immediate replacement.
